Many find feelings confusing – How Training in Trauma Aware Mindfulness Mentoring & Yoga Therapy can help

How feeling confused can create tension in the body

Many find feelings confusing. That confusion can create a ripple effect of more stress, tension & fatigue building up in the body & mind.
One of the obstacles we learn to work with in our Trauma Aware Mindfulness Meditation & Yoga Therapy Programs is strong or confusing emotions.

Myths of Mindfulness & Meditation :

Many may mistake Mindfulness to mean just being present or learning not to react. This is untrue. Due to the token statement of “respond not react” there’s more to it than just this one aspect.

Our bodies are designed to react & at times need to.
We may not need to fear these reactions, perhaps learning to respect what the body is trying to tell us rather than deny it, is one of the most useful pathways toward pain relief.

Other myths about Mindfulness & Meditation is that you need to stop your thinking or clear your head – this of course feels impossible when you are confused or feeling all sorts of emotions. You do not need to stop your thoughts , rather investigate and self inquire with curiosity. This can be the beginning of finding relief rather than feeling like you are failing at meditation.

Misunderstandings about Anger & other strong reactions

There is also a lot of misunderstanding around “so called” negative emotions like anger – however studies have shown for us to allow our very natural cycles of fight / flight / freeze / or please modes to complete their cycles – it is actually healthy to express anger. Obviously there is a lot more to this than these brief and generalised statements.

Feeling defeated can be one of the hardest feelings

One of the hardest hurdles many find when it comes to Trauma (of which has a very broad scope that we explore more in our Trainings) is feelings of defeat , overwhelm which can have a ripple effect causing mistaken beliefs which in turn cause more suffering in both the mind and the body. There are ways to practice Mindfulness and certain forms of Meditation that can help us navigate these often repetitive feelings (of which we refer to as our ‘Familiar Guests’) .

“Nothing is ever just in the body or just in the mind, the two are linked” This is why it is important to learn ways to work skilfully with our most challenging emotions – due to the often debilitating effect they can have on us mentally and physically.
