Freeing Up Stuck Emotions Using Mindfulness

Freeing Up Stuck Emotions Using Mindfulness with a little help from my favourite poet Rumi ~ by Tammy Williams

When we deliberately become inclusive of all that arises a new space that may have been previously taken up with resistance (or stuck attention) is freed. When we can become inclusive of our “guests” treating feelings as messengers just like the Guest House below suggests, this can become a powerful practice that can lead us toward meditation.

Enjoy the poem below from my favourite poet Rumi

The Guest House

This being human is a guest-house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness

comes as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain

them all! Even if they’re a

crowd of sorrows, Who violently

sweep your house empty of its furniture.

still, treat each guest honourably.

He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

There are many practices and doorways that we can use to

“Notice” and “Respond” with “Grace” (NRG) to help us transform stuck eNeRGy created by the judging or “not wanting” mind.  When we reject feelings and try and place them outside of our heart, likewise with other humans (when we place another outside of our heart) it can cause some form of suffering or constriction.

Mindfulness in this way teaches us how to move from being resistant to what is happening in our experience and being responsive to it , in a kind and curious way and

with a sense of humour!  (the game changer I find at times) as best as we can today
