You do not need to be flexible to do Yoga ! How Mindfulness & Meditation really helps with releasing tension

Did you know that Yoga has NOTHING to do with how flexible you are……
The first two limbs of Yoga : Yamas & Niyamas have nothing to do with how flexible you are in your body . They are more about attitude and how we treat ourselves & others.
How you treat yourself while your moving and stretching will have an impact on your flexibility. If you are jamming yourself into a pose to look good or be better than someone else your mind is not with you but against you. A sure way for the body to have more tension not less.
The body & mind have a gift called interoception, which helps us learn how we really feel and take skilful action based on this information. Daily practice of Yoga (not just the physical poses) helps us NOTICE better & RESPOND better .
If we are confused about the purpose of yoga as being all about having to be flexible we miss the mark of truly listening to the bodies signals.
You don’t have to be flexible to do Yoga. You have to learn how to Listen.
This means minimising all external distractions or ideas about how you think you should be.
It means feeling into how you are right now in the moment.
This will give you the most truthful information. Getting to know what your body is trying to tell you is the key to skilful action.
Not what the mind is telling the body….. especially if it’s saying things like “You need to be more flexible”
When there is complete LISTENING to the body , feeling the sensations fully, the mind will say nothing at all.
It becomes fully integrated
This gives the experience of “Yoga” union.
