Learn more about Ji Living and Yoga Philosophy Beyond the Mat:
We are excited that so many new people in the West are discovering the benefits of yoga in recent years. But yoga is not only asana, that’s just a small part. The goal of yoga is to help people connect with the divine. The word ‘Ji’ in Sanskrit means to respect, honour and acknowledge one’s spiritual self, as well as the spiritual nature of others. ‘Living’ refers to adopting the values of ‘Ji’ and applying them in your daily life, something that anyone can do whether you are a husband, wife, student, or in the midst of a busy career.

Ji Living’s teachings are for anyone who wants to experience the profound benefits of a yogic life. There’s no need to make a radical break from your life but you may find yourself willingly making incremental small changes that make you far more happy.

Swami Govindananda (Swami Ji) was born in New Zealand in 1953. In 1975 he met a Swami who introduced him to the philosophy of Bhakti Yoga. Swami Govindananda travelled to India and met his Guru, living in his Guru’s ashram for several years where, under his guidance, he began practising meditation and studying yogic philosophy.

In 1987, Swami Ji was initiated as a Swami and in 1989, following his Guru’s wishes, he left India to help others experience the mysteries of the self. Swami Ji gives regular inspiring talks around Australia, and internationally, to encourage people in their own journey of self-discovery.
