Yoga and The Subtle Body – Philosophy from The Tao Te Ching
Screen Shot 2019-03-22 at 10.20.40 am

Initially, when embarking on Yoga and or Yoga Teacher Training it is common especially in the west to start with or highlight the more physical aspects of Yoga.

Exploring Yoga and Meditation from the Subtle Body involves understanding and learning to integrate that which we can not always see. Things like our thoughts, emotions, various aspects of ourselves – both yin qualities, and yang qualities.

The key to Mindfulness-Based Yoga and Meditation is to learn to be inclusive of it all without rejection. Especially the things about ourselves that we want to ‘cut out’ and get rid of. During recent Teacher Training on the Power of the Subtle Body what was interesting was the things that stood out as great learning and self-development was activities that connected to play, to immerse in the elements of nature.
In this day and age of all work and little play we often need reminders of finding our ‘way’ back home.

Below is a verse from the Tao Te Ching about the Fusion of Opposites :

THE FUSION OF OPPOSITES

To know the masculine
and be true to the feminine
is to be the waterway of the world.

To be the waterway of the world
is to flow with the Great Integrity,
always swirling back
to the innocence of childhood.

To know yang
and to be true to yin
is to echo the universe.

To echo the universe
is to merge with the Great Integrity,
ever returning to the infinite.

To know praise
and be true to the lowly
is to be a model for the planet.

To be a model for the planet
is to express the Great Integrity
as the Primal Simplicity –
like an uncarved block.

When the uncarved block
goes to the craftsman,
it is transformed into something useful.

The wise craftsman
cuts as little as necessary
because he follows the Great Integrity
